History
Amaretto's origins are traced to Saronno, Italy, in the 16th century. Legend claims it was created as a gift for artist Bernardino Luini. Despite its almond flavor, traditional recipes use apricot pits, which contain benzaldehyde—the same compound that gives almonds their characteristic taste. Disaronno remains the best-known brand.
