Ingredients

How to make it

  1. Pour the lager into a large beer mug with room for the shot glass.
  2. Pour the amaretto into a heatproof shot glass and slowly float the overproof rum over the back of a spoon.
  3. If lighting the rum, use a long lighter and keep the glass on a clear, heatproof surface.
  4. Fully extinguish the flame before moving the shot into the beer.
  5. Never drink a burning shot.

Tip: Pour each layer slowly over the back of a bar spoon, heaviest first.

About the Flaming Dr Pepper

The name refers to the soda-like flavour of beer, amaretto and rum together, though the drink contains no Dr Pepper. Both the Gold Mine Saloon in New Orleans and the Ptarmigan Club in Bryan, Texas, appear in accounts of its disputed origins.

Missing something?

  • No Amaretto? Use Frangelico (Hazelnut instead of almond)
  • No Overproof Rum? Use Dark Rum (Less alcohol and less punch)
  • No Overproof Rum? Use Aged Rum (Less alcohol and less punch)
