How to make it

Combine the red wine, brandy, triple sec, orange juice and simple syrup in a large pitcher. Stir well. Add the sliced oranges and lemons. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. Serve over ice.

About the Easy Sangria

Sangria originated in Spain and Portugal, where wine was mixed with fruit to make it more palatable. The name comes from the Spanish word 'sangre' meaning blood, referring to the drink's deep red colour.

  • No brandy? Use Cognac
  • No brandy? Use Pisco (Unaged and more floral)
  • No triple sec? Use Grand Marnier (Richer and cognac-based)
  • No triple sec? Use Blue Curaçao (Same flavour, but turns the drink blue)
  • No orange juice? Use Orange (Squeeze fresh: 1 orange gives about 70 ml)
  • No orange juice? Use Blood Orange Juice (Berry-like and deep red)
  • No simple syrup? Use Sugar (1 tsp sugar is about 7.5 ml syrup; stir until dissolved)
  • No simple syrup? Use Honey Syrup (Adds honey flavour)
