About the Kentucky Buck

Created by Erick Castro at Bourbon & Branch in San Francisco around 2009, it adds strawberry to the old "buck" formula of spirit, citrus and ginger beer.

Missing something?

  • No Bourbon? Use Jim Beam Bourbon (Jim Beam is a bourbon)
  • No Bourbon? Use Jack Daniels (Tennessee whiskey is made much like bourbon)
  • No Lemon Juice? Use Lemon (Squeeze fresh: 1 lemon gives about 30 ml)
  • No Lemon Juice? Use Lime Juice (Sharper, different aroma)
  • No Simple Syrup? Use Sugar (1 tsp sugar is about 7.5 ml syrup; stir until dissolved)
  • No Simple Syrup? Use Honey Syrup (Adds honey flavour)
  • No Angostura Bitters? Use Peychaud's Bitters (Lighter, with more anise)
  • No Strawberries? Use Strawberry Purée
  • No Ginger Beer? Use Ginger Ale (Milder and sweeter)
