Ingredients

How to make it

  1. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice and stir until well chilled.
  2. Strain into an old-fashioned glass over one large ice cube.
  3. Express an orange peel over the drink and use it as the garnish.

Tip: Stir with plenty of cold, hard ice for 20 to 30 seconds. You want it chilled and silky, not cloudy.

About the Long Look Back

Kacie Lambert created it in 2018 at Stay Gold in New York. Rye and Japanese whisky share the base, and the alpine amaro Braulio adds a piney, bittersweet backbone that makes it drink like an old fashioned crossed with a Manhattan.

Missing something?

  • No Rye Whiskey? Use Bourbon (Softer and sweeter than rye's spice)
  • No Rye Whiskey? Use Jim Beam Bourbon (A bourbon: softer and sweeter than rye)
  • No Japanese Whisky? Use Scotch Whisky (Blended Scotch is the closest style)
  • No Japanese Whisky? Use Johnnie Walker Scotch (A blended Scotch, a little richer)
  • No Braulio? Use Cynar (Earthier and less piney)
  • No Demerara Syrup? Use Simple Syrup (Lighter, without the toffee notes)
  • No Angostura Bitters? Use Peychaud's Bitters (Lighter, with more anise)

All swaps for Rye Whiskey, Japanese Whisky, Braulio, Demerara Syrup and Angostura Bitters
