History
Created in 1952 in Padua, Italy, named after 'cynara scolymus' (artichoke). The distinctive bottle features an artichoke but the flavor is primarily bitter herbs. Popular as a digestif in Italy and increasingly in craft cocktails.
How it’s made
Made from 13 herbs and plants including artichoke leaves, which provide bitter compounds. Other botanicals are undisclosed. Lower ABV than most amari makes it approachable. The bitter-sweet balance suits both sipping and mixing.
