How to make it

  1. Use sweetened cream of coconut and an apricot liqueur, not a dry apricot eau-de-vie.
  2. Shake all ingredients with crushed ice, then pour unstrained into a tall glass.
  3. Add more crushed ice and garnish with a lemon wedge.

Tip: Fill the shaker with ice and shake hard for 10 to 15 seconds, until the tin is frosty.

About the Tradewinds

Jeff "Beachbum" Berry rediscovered this 1970s tiki drink, later adapted for Smuggler's Cove. Apricot liqueur and sweetened coconut cream give its two-rum base a distinctive fruity richness.

  • No Apricot Brandy? Use Peach Schnapps (Thinner and sweeter)
  • No Apricot Brandy? Use Peach Brandy (Peach instead of apricot)
  • No Coconut Cream? Use Cream (Loses the coconut flavour)
  • No Lemon Juice? Use Lemon (Squeeze fresh: 1 lemon gives about 30 ml)
  • No Lemon Juice? Use Lime Juice (Sharper, different aroma)
