Ingredients
- 30mlWhite Rum
- 30mlGold Rum
- 30mlDark Rum
- 15mlHoney Syrup
- 22.5mlLime Juice
- 22.5mlGrapefruit Juice
- 15mlSoda Water
How to make it
- Shake the rums, honey syrup, lime and grapefruit juice hard with ice.
- Pour into an old-fashioned glass, add the soda water and pack with crushed ice.
- Garnish with a mint sprig.
- A Demerara rum is the classic choice for the dark rum.
Tip: Fill the shaker with ice and shake hard for 10 to 15 seconds, until the tin is frosty.
About the Navy Grog
Donn Beach (Don the Beachcomber) created it around 1940 using three different rums; Trader Vic later served his own version under the same name.

- No Honey Syrup? Use Honey (Mix with the same amount of warm water first)
- No Honey Syrup? Use Agave Syrup
- No Lime Juice? Use Lime (Squeeze fresh: 1 lime gives about 25 ml)
- No Lime Juice? Use Lemon Juice (Softer, different aroma)
- No Grapefruit Juice? Use Grapefruit (Squeeze fresh: 1 grapefruit gives about 150 ml)
