Ancient Mariner

The Ancient Mariner is a citrusy, spicy tiki cocktail made with Gold Rum, Dark Rum, Allspice Dram, Lime Juice and more. It is shaken and served in an old-fashioned glass, about 16% ABV.

How to make it

  1. Use a gold Demerara rum and a dark Jamaican rum.
  2. Shake all ingredients with ice, then strain into a double old-fashioned glass filled with crushed ice.
  3. Garnish with a lime wedge and a mint sprig.

Tip: Fill the shaker with ice and shake hard for 10 to 15 seconds, until the tin is frosty.

About the Ancient Mariner

Jeff "Beachbum" Berry and Annene Kaye developed this drink while trying to recreate Trader Vic's Navy Grog. It appeared in their 1998 book Grog Log.

  • No Simple Syrup? Use Rich Simple Syrup (More concentrated, so use less)
  • No Simple Syrup? Use Sugar (1 tsp sugar is about 7.5 ml syrup; stir until dissolved)
