Ingredients

How to make it

  1. Shake the bourbon, lemon juice and syrup with ice and strain into a Collins glass filled with ice.
  2. Top up with the champagne, stir gently and garnish with a lemon twist.

Tip: Fill the shaker with ice and shake hard for 10 to 15 seconds, until the tin is frosty.

About the French 95

A French 75 with bourbon in place of gin. Stanley Jones's 1977 Complete Barguide lists the gin, bourbon and cognac versions side by side, raising the number by twenty for each step away from gin.

Missing something?

  • No Bourbon? Use Jim Beam Bourbon (Jim Beam is a bourbon)
  • No Bourbon? Use Jack Daniels (Tennessee whiskey is made much like bourbon)
  • No Lemon Juice? Use Lemon (Squeeze fresh: 1 lemon gives about 30 ml)
  • No Lemon Juice? Use Lime Juice (Sharper, different aroma)
  • No Simple Syrup? Use Rich Simple Syrup (More concentrated, so use less)
  • No Simple Syrup? Use Sugar (1 tsp sugar is about 7.5 ml syrup; stir until dissolved)
  • No Champagne? Use Prosecco (Fruitier and a little sweeter)

All swaps for Bourbon, Lemon Juice and Simple Syrup
