Place sugar cube in flute, dash with bitters. Add cognac, then top with champagne. Garnish with orange and cherry.

One of the oldest champagne cocktails, appearing in Jerry Thomas's 1862 bartender's guide.

Missing something?

  • No champagne? Use Prosecco (Fruitier and a little sweeter)
  • No cognac? Use Brandy (Cognac is a grape brandy; any decent brandy works)
  • No angostura bitters? Use Peychaud's Bitters (Lighter, with more anise)
  • No sugar cube? Use Sugar (1 teaspoon per cube)
  • No sugar cube? Use Simple Syrup (About 7.5 ml per cube)
