How to make it
- Pour the whiskey into one shot glass and chilled pickle brine into another.
- Drink the whiskey, then chase it straight away with the brine.
Tip: Fill the glass right to the top with ice so the drink stays cold without watering down fast.
About the Pickleback
Popularised around 2006 by bartender Reggie Cunningham at the Bushwick Country Club in Brooklyn, who served whiskey with brine from McClure's pickles. Irish whiskey became the usual pour as it spread through New York bars.
