Ingredients

How to make it

  1. Stir the gin, dry vermouth and absinthe with plenty of ice until very cold.
  2. Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with a green olive on a pick.

Tip: Stir with plenty of cold, hard ice for 20 to 30 seconds. You want it chilled and silky, not cloudy.

About the Obituary

A Dry Martini with absinthe in place of bitters, popular in the 1940s at Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop in New Orleans. A local historian later joked that it finished off the bar's regulars, and Brooklyn's Maison Premiere brought it back around 2011.

Missing something?

  • No Gin? Use Old Tom Gin (Sweeter and rounder, so cut the syrup a little)
  • No Gin? Use Genever (Maltier and rounder)
  • No Dry Vermouth? Use Bianco Vermouth (Sweeter)
  • No Dry Vermouth? Use Lillet Blanc (Fruitier and sweeter)
