Ingredients

How to make it

  1. Stir all ingredients with ice and strain into an old-fashioned glass over one large ice cube.
  2. Express a grapefruit twist over the drink and drop it in.

Tip: Stir with plenty of cold, hard ice for 20 to 30 seconds. You want it chilled and silky, not cloudy.

About the Elder Fashion

Phil Ward built it at Death & Co in New York by swapping every part of an Old Fashioned: Plymouth gin for whiskey, St-Germain elderflower liqueur for sugar, orange bitters for Angostura and grapefruit for the orange peel.

Missing something?

  • No Gin? Use Old Tom Gin (Slightly sweeter)
  • No Gin? Use Genever (Maltier and rounder)
