How to make it
- Pour the cold stout into a chilled champagne flute, then slowly top up with brut champagne or other dry sparkling wine so the two blend gently.
Tip: Fill the glass right to the top with ice so the drink stays cold without watering down fast.
About the Black Velvet
Said to have been created in 1861 at Brooks's Club in London, when a steward darkened the champagne with stout to mourn Prince Albert. Fittingly, it is the colour of a funeral suit.
Missing something?
- No Stout? Use Guinness (Thinner and drier than a rich stout)
- No Champagne? Use Prosecco (Fruitier and a little sweeter)
