History
Created in Switzerland, Goldschläger became popular in North American bars in the 1990s. The gold flakes (which are completely safe to consume) made it a novelty hit. Urban legends claimed the gold would cut your throat to help alcohol absorb faster—completely false, as the flakes are too soft and thin to cause any harm.
