How to make it

Warm a heatproof glass with hot water and discard it. Add the Scotch, honey syrup and lemon juice, top with water just off the boil and stir. Garnish with a lemon wheel and a cinnamon stick.

About the Hot Toddy

Toddy comes from the Hindi word for a drink made from fermented palm sap. By the 1700s it meant spirit, sugar and hot water in Britain, and it has been a cold-weather remedy ever since.

  • No scotch whisky? Use Johnnie Walker Scotch (Johnnie Walker is a blended Scotch)
  • No scotch whisky? Use Irish Whiskey (Lighter and less smoky)
  • No honey syrup? Use Honey (Mix with the same amount of warm water first)
  • No honey syrup? Use Agave Syrup
  • No lemon juice? Use Lemon (Squeeze fresh: 1 lemon gives about 30 ml)
  • No lemon juice? Use Lime Juice (Sharper, different aroma)
